Here’s the trailer for Sofia Coppola’s new film, Somewhere. Looks kind of like a Junior Lost in Translation, but in a good way. Bonus: the trailer features one of my favorite newer Phoenix songs, and what I’m thinking is a Little Joy cover of the Strokes, “You Only Live Once.” Double whammy!
It’s that time of year again in DC….Peep Shows! For the fourth year in a row, the Washington Post holds a Peeps Diarama Contest (Does your local paper do that? Didn’t think so.) This year they got over 1,000 entries! The winner is an “Up!” themed diarama, titled “Eep!” There were so many good ones, so I posted some favorites below, but be sure to click through the Post’s slideshow for more Peep wonders!

I can’t think of anything to say about the work of Peter Callesen that could possibly do it justice. All you need to know is that HE CREATES THESE PIECES FROM ONE SINGLE SHEET OF A4 PAPER. I’m done, move your keyboard out from directly under your mouth to ensure its safety from probable drool…

GUYS. Did you know that JWOWW of the Jersey Shore fame is good at (besides eating ham and drinking water of course) graphic design? Yep! The lady with the bedazzled undies and two-toned hair brings in the big bucks with her graphic design career. JWOWW..she’s just like us!

Or at least I do. Paul Kasmin Gallery here in New York has some work up by one of my fave’s, Walton Ford. If you’re not yet familiar with his work, Ford paints large-scale naturalist scenes of animals. There’s always a layer of subtext to his works that deals with colonialism and history. He had an amazing show up at BMA a few years ago but if you missed it and haven’t seen his work in person you should really check it out.
Coinciding with the Ford show is an awesome installation by Chilean artist Ivan Navarro. Navarro’s work is highly influenced by another of my favorites Dan Flavin and this piece at Paul Kasmin is a response to Tony Smith’s steel cube also called “Die”. In the Navarro work you enter a large black cube to see lights, mirrors and sound.
Both shows are up until Decmeber 23rd with the Ivan Navarro piece opening today.
This might be old news since this book was released in October but I am drooling over this tribute to all art hair related published by Gestalten. Hair’em Scare’em features sculpture, jewelry, drawing, photography and more by artists around the world who use hair as a medium or as inspiration in their work. Want want want!
